Graduate Mechanical Engineer opportunities available in Summer 2010
Start your career at Arup, the top-listed engineering firm in the 2007 Building Design & Construction Magazine’s “Best AEC Firms to Work For” . . . FROM THE START, a newly-graduated engineer receives:
• Substantial Engineering Work Assignments
• A Training Plan for Accelerated Professional Growth
• Work Opportunities That Acknowledge Ability, Not Seat-Time
• Full Membership in a Global Network of Experts
As Consulting Engineers, where what we “sell” is engineering knowledge in support of architectural excellence, Arup understands that each person’s development is linked to our success in the industry, which then creates more opportunity for all. This is why 91% of staff know that their own work has a positive impact on the success of the firm, why 70% of our projects are repeat business (often with world-class architects) and why Arup consistently remains in the ENR Rankings Top 25 International Design Firms (2007 ranking: 4th in General Building).
With such close synergy and alignment between personal and corporate goals, Arup looks for talented individuals who exhibit exceptional technical skill and also have personal characteristics that will help to propagate the long term Arup values of:
• Quality of Work
• Holistic Approach
• Humane Organization
• Straight and Honorable Dealings
• Social Usefulness
• Reasonable Prosperity of Members
As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer, your typical responsibilities will include:
• Load analyses for the purposes of system sizing
• Air side and water side calculations for designing building systems
• Report writing: writing summaries of the calculation methodologies employed
• Giving structure to your own ideas – lots of “taking a first pass” at spreadsheets, reports and analyses for discussion later rather than instruction
• Attending meetings and learning from listening, asking questions and discussion
• Working with people from other disciplines and/or vendors to gain knowledge on new subjects.
